Better Health Habits

I’m working to make my health initiatives habits. My first initiative was spending an hour outdoors every day regardless of weather. Next came my daily stretching exercises using a beam on my shed. I stretch my arms by doing assisted deep knee bends. This not only relieves back pain but also makes walking easier and less painful. Next I started walking a picket, the gravel path adjacent to the roadway in front of my house. It gets my heart rate up and is already getting easier. I’m only doing one complete circuit but plan to take it to 2 very soon. The last thing I’ve added so far is weight training. I managed to do 10 curls easily but struggle to get just 5 presses. I’ll work up to where I can do this measly weight with ease then start up the weight then start increasing the reps. I’ve had the gear for a couple of years but I lost interest a year ago last summer. That’s a bad habit I need to overcome, quitting the habit before it becomes set.

New Eating Habits

My mother’s menu habits seem to be strongly rooted in the past. She cooks meals for 5 people who spends long days doing construction or agricultural work. When she was a kid and learning to cook that was the situation. Now we are 3 sedentary people and her menu planning hasn’t changed. She typically cooks 2 or three carbs and many times low quality carbs at that. I eat a couple of hours after mom and her husband do so I heat up leftovers. I usually limit myself to one small serving of the highest quality carb she prepares. Then I add high quality carbs like peppers, onions, garlic cloves, celery and carrots. I put it all in a skillet and heat it on med-high for 10 minutes or so.  Mom fixed Biscuits and gravy which is two low quality carbs. I’ll  do without the biscuit and chop up some cauliflower to go with my other vegetables. I’m getting hungry thinking about it so I’m off.

Monday

Spent the day dealing with health issues. More specifically Healthcare issues. I did go out and take pictures but just barely.

I’ve been working on my daughter Kait’s Logo. I’m kind of mashing these two images into a drawing. I’m also thinking of some slightly less authentic leaves.
